In this weeks lab session we were asked to use a zsphere model and to experiment with re-meshing it and creating an adaptive skin. I started with the black bear model and created an adaptive skin. By turning up the DynaMesh resolution and the density, it smoothed out the zspeheres and created an easier skin to work on. I then cleared the canvas and inserted the new adaptive skin model. I used puref to display my found references of black … Continue reading “ZRemesher experiments”

Comparison of small multiples
Tufte’s ‘comparison of small multiples’ theory suggests that if you put similar images with only slight variations in one single field of vision, the viewer will understand cognitively the difference between each image. (Tufte, 1990, pp.67-81) In this blog post I will be discussing Tufte’s comparison of small multiples theory and how it relates to my chosen subject area, magazines. Practising with Z-spheres
This week in our lab we were asked to create an animal of our choice using Z-spheres. I chose to create a pigeon as I thought it would be an easy and simple shape to start off with. This original pigeon model ended up breaking after being smoothed so I had to start again. … Continue reading “Practising with Z-spheres”
Using Dynamesh in Zbrush
This week in our lab session we created a pumpkin. We utilised the dynamesh tool in Zbrush to recalculate and optimise the topology of our models after intense modelling. This week I also tried the masking tool to help model more effectively and I also used the paint tool for the first time to colour in my pumpkin. I gave him some teeth for affect. After I had completed the colouring of him, I built on to his face more … Continue reading “Using Dynamesh in Zbrush”
Use of colour

I will therefore in this research diary be discussing Tufte’s theories in relation to magazine design. In this blog post however I will be focusing on the use of colour in existing mental health magazines and statistics. Edward Tufte theorised that the function of colour in analytical … Continue reading “Use of colour”
