Rendering and lighting techniques I used

To illuminate my assets I used the directional light option and added multiple lights to my scene. I increased the intensity as needed in order for the rendered asset to turn out well. When the directional light is added into my scene I press ‘6’ in order to show the lighting and how it effects my asset. Doing this creates these red arrows around my asset which shows the direction of the light. After I was happy with the light … Continue reading “Rendering and lighting techniques I used”

Texturing techniques I used

I really enjoyed texturing my assets. I used some stock textures from this website : https://freestocktextures.com/ and added my own editing onto them. Freestocktextures.com. 2021. Free Stock Textures. [online] Available at: <https://freestocktextures.com/> [Accessed 13 January 2021]. But I also ended up creating my own textures in photoshop too using the paint tool. In order to texture my assets – I would firstly go into the UV editor and create a UV snapshot of my asset by going to ‘Image – UV … Continue reading “Texturing techniques I used”

Modelling techniques I used

Polygons Obviously, most of my assets were modelled from the basic polygon shapes that are available to use. I would use these to start off my models then I would experiment with using multiple different polygons together then reshaping and rescaling them to create the desired effect. After I had achieved the desired shape that I wanted I would use the mesh tools to combine the various polygons I used. Extrude I also used the extrude tool multiple times to … Continue reading “Modelling techniques I used”

Problems

I encountered a few issues overall. Especially when it came to modelling the actual assets and the software itself. I really struggle understanding the Maya interface so I had a few issues with general problems like the pivot being off centre and me not understanding why or how to fix it. A few little problems similar to this popped up every now and then. I also struggled generally with the modelling of my assets. Sometimes I would attempt to model … Continue reading “Problems”

What went well?

Overall, I am happy with my assets and there are a few that I am particularly proud of. I initially struggled with Maya and felt like I did really well despite my struggles at the beginning. I think that the texturing went really well. I really enjoyed texturing my models using the UV editor and creating my own textures on Photoshop. I really liked seeing my own designs on my models – I feel like they really pulled the models … Continue reading “What went well?”

Research

When the group initially decided to create assets for a secret agent base we thought it may be a little difficult to come up with a list of assets each, however I researched and considered mine deeply and this was my final list: I tried to think outside the box so I could experiment with lots of different textures and models. My initial research consisted of looking at different images on google to get some inspiration. I looked at these … Continue reading “Research”

Asset notes 2

I knew that as the USB stick was a relatively simple model I wanted to play with the textures and colouring of my model. I decided that whatever model I created I would pay extra attention to the texturing. Initially the desk was overly simple and I didn’t really like the shape. I decided that I would play with the design and shape as I modelled to find something I liked. The spy camera was inspired heavily by my research … Continue reading “Asset notes 2”

Asset notes 1

In the notes and illustrations above I planned out the basics of how I want my assets to look. For the monitor I knew that I wanted to texture the asset to look as if it had a screen and desktop and I knew that I wanted to design a rusty and old looking safe full of coins. I also decided how I would display my safe – I chose to model the door open so it looked as if … Continue reading “Asset notes 1”
