Poses
When designing the poses that fit my character, I knew I needed to display the different aspects of her personality. I wanted to show her business side, her manic powerful side and yet her sensitive and anxious side. I imagine Estry as having a very two sided personality, she is powerful and a strong leader but she is still overcome with guilt and anxiety from her past trauma.
The first pose shows her business side. I imagine her in this pose listening to someone talk, she looks intimidating and confident in herself, but almost seems as if she won’t take advice from anyone. In the second pose, she is manic and I imagine her plotting her rule of the underworld, maybe this pose is even after she has murdered her brother and father. The third pose shows her more subdued and anxious side. I imagine Estry to be succumbed with traumatic flashbacks of abuse from her father as well as pain from her cursed hand, and this causes her to have moments feeling very powerless and scared. I created these poses in hopes of illustrating what a multi faceted character Estry is.
Accessories
As for accessories, I chose to create a necklace, a staff and I have also included some information on the shoes and her hand tattoo curse.
Her necklace is a silver chain golden pendant that was from her mother when she was younger. It is just a simple necklace but she has never taken it off and wears it every day as it reminds her of her mother. Sometimes she thinks that she can hear her mothers voice through it. When modelling the necklace I used the ‘DamStandard’ brush in the Zadd option directly on to my model to create a very fine line.
As for the shoes, I decided to base them off the Christian Louboutin classic shoe with the red soles. I really wanted her to be wearing angular heels to accentuate her height and also her angular features. When modelling the shoes, I directly modelled them to the characters feet using the ‘clay build-up’ and move ‘tool’.
I also created a staff for her. I thought this would be the best accessory for her to have as it is powerful and royal. The staff represents having royal power, almost like a sceptre. It was her fathers before and was set to be handed down to her brother but is now hers.
I created the staff in Autodesk Maya by starting off with a long cube and stretching it to the length I wanted. I then selected a face and extruded it out. I then moved and rotated the vertices to start the spiral shape and repeated this process of extruding and rotating until the right spiral shape was formed. After this I imported it into Zbrush as an ‘fbx’ file to paint and edit it as I wanted .
Another important factor of my model I wanted to explain is the hand curse/tattoo. The curse that plagues Estry is important to her character development as it teaches her about the consequences of her actions and proves as a constant reminder of her terrible acts. It also acts as one of her biggest character flaws, proving that she is not perfect and omnipotent. The design is composed of spiral patterns on her left hand and arm with an eye in the palm of the hand to symbolise that she is always being watched and judged for her actions. I created this pattern in Zbrush by using the surface painter with the RGB setting on and the ‘paint’ tool to add some details to her hands.
