Practising with Z-spheres

This week in our lab we were asked to create an animal of our choice using Z-spheres. I chose to create a pigeon as I thought it would be an easy and simple shape to start off with. It was a little difficult to get my head around, but once I got the hang of moving and arranging the Z-spheres I actually enjoyed myself.

My first attempt at a Z-sphere pigeon using PureRef the reference image software to pull up my references alongside my model.

This original pigeon model ended up breaking after being smoothed so I had to start again. I think that there were too many Z-spheres stacked on top of one another so when I modelled my next pigeon I simplified the shape extremely. I was actually able to make this model really quickly compared to my first attempt.

My second more simple pigeon model.

Overall, Z-spheres were quite difficult to start off with but once I got the hang of it it became a lot easier to use and I am actually quite happy with my final result, even though it is quite simple.
