Conceptual Design Ideas- Poster

For my wildlife conservation poster, I have decided to focus on advocating country road awareness at night. I want to come up with a design solution that will be emotive enough to make a difference, just like the examples in my last blog post.

I initially thought of making a poster about fox hunting and badger baiting (hence the dog mouths) however this is already illegal and rarely practised, roadkill however is still a common issue.

I started thinking of the British animal that would feature on my poster and after consideration, I thought of the badger. Badgers have distinct markings that could really stand out in my design, they are rarely seen alive and are also a legally protected species. I knew that it would be interesting to play with the idea of an ‘animal in headlights’ and to create a design solution based on this. I then thought about the other imagery I could combine, considering the obvious car and road.

I considered how I could combine shapes to express an idea and looked at the P.O.V perspective that the other posters had, I want to include this into my initial design idea. I drew out the perspective of being in a car and coming down a road using basic shapes to do so. I also considered other features like using a circular spotlight (like headlights) to create a focal point. I want to include text in my poster like a slogan and perhaps some statistics at the bottom to make the reader think. I would also like to include some foliage on the side of the road and experiment with how I can create the shrubbery using shapes. Overall I have a definite style in my head that I am going for which is a very modern illustrative style, utilising shapes and structured colour palettes to create an effective design.
